Here is the car just before I start to take it totally apart and lift the body off the frame.

The picture below shows the frame without the body. It is a nice frame in very good condition.

When I started this restoration I decided to make things easy for myself and just clean up the suspension and the frame a bit and get it all painted black. But since I am not lazy and I am not in a hurry either I decided to go all the way and do everything the way it should be done. As a result I had to remove the bpdy from the frame, then take apart the frame and suspension completely and have all the parts sandblasted and painted before I finally can put everything back together with all new parts.
That means I needed new bushings, ball joints, brake parts, parts for the steering and so on. These parts were ordered directly from the US as they are not in stock here in Norway.
Here is the frame painted. Now it will have to rest for a while until I have the rear end and all the suspension parts back from the sand blasting. Then they will need to be painted. I will also have to get the bolts and other hardware restored. I have bought new bushings from the US and hopefully they will arrive soon.
Above you can see a pile of suspension parts and in the back ground the rear end ready to be sand blasted.

To the left is a picture of the frame after blasting. It is coated with a layer of rust protective primer. This work is done prefessionally and with the most satisfactory result by

1967 Mercury Monterey S-55 convertible.

Follow the restoration step by step

- Frame and suspension - steering.
Here are some of the parts for the suspension ready to be installed on the frame. All parts that can be worn will be replaces with new parts. I prefer to use a good brand quality parts for the best fit and a long life. Moog parts seems to work fine. They cost a little more than the cheap parts, but they are well worth it. I have decided to re use the old springs as they are heavy duty springs and seemed to be in OK condition. Shocks will be gas-a-just from KYB.
In these pictures you can see that most of the suspension work is done. The only thing left to do is the brakes. I am still waiting for the brake caliper pistons to arrive, and I'm also missing the RH NOS parking brake cable. These parts will soon be here, so it is under control.

Here we are testing the new wheels for clearance to the ball joints and upper arms. It looks pretty good to me, and I love the appearence of these wheels.

A set of Pirelli 235/55-17 tires have been purchased in the US for the car and they should be here later this fall.
